Any day of the week if I were to ask my husband what he wants for dinner he would say steak. Men and steaks pretty much go hand in hand, so naturally, when I was putting together this Father's Day Gift Ideas (For The Kitchen) it only made sense to include a grill that would be perfect for making delicious "man-food". Not only is this Double Play Reversible Grill Griddle from Lodge the perfect surface to fry up a mean steak, it also doubles as a griddle when you flip it over to the other side. (I've also included a recipe below for a delicious steak that I made on the grill!) That means dad can also whip up some of his famous flapjacks, bacon and eggs for breakfast! The Double Play Griddle is extremely heavy duty. I'm not even joking. It's one sturdy piece! Probably because it's made from seasoned cast iron!
The Double Play Griddle fits right over two of your stove burners, making it a super easy and super convenient cooking surface! It's also extremely easy to clean, especially if you clean it right after you finish using it! One valuable lesson I've learned in the kitchen is not to let my pots, pans and other cooking and baking items sit for too long after I've cooked with them. Now, I clean them right after I'm finished with them and it makes cleanup super easy. It only took me 6 years to realize that!
So, this side here is the griddle side and it's especially useful for things like breakfast! We used ours to make some yummy pancakes and bacon!
But, in order to properly test out this bad boy I knew what I had to do. I had to fry up some steaks!
...And I had to give them the cool grill lines, of course! They turned out beautifully!
Grilled Rib Eyes with Creamy Brandy Mushrooms Recipe: {Print Recipe}
Ingredients:
2 large Rib Eyes (about 3/4lb each)
Oil
12 ounces sliced mushrooms
1 clove garlic (minced)
3 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup brandy
1 cup heavy cream
Salt & Pepper
Instructions:
Place grill over burners and turn heat up to high. Oil and place steaks on the grill. For medium rare steaks, cook for about 4 minutes, flip and cook for another 4 minutes (this can vary depending on the thickness of your steaks.)
In a small pan, over medium heat, melt butter and add garlic. Cook for 1 minute then add mushrooms. Sautee mushrooms for 4-5 minutes, add brandy and cook for additional 5-6 minutes, or until no brandy remains. Add cream, turn up heat to medium high heat and simmer until mixture has thickened significantly, about 4-5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
Spoon mushrooms over steaks and serve.
